Fear
of
Rejection

The fear of being rejected is a powerful experience.  If it becomes a lifestyle it can have destructive effects in a persons life.  A life that is lived based on the fear of rejection operates from the stance of, "I must be approved by certain others to feel good about myself." When that approval is denied (intentionally, unintentionally, or imagined) the rejection is normally manifested by an outburst of resentment, hostility, anger, a disgusted look, or an impatient answer. Ultimately living life based on the fear of rejection culminates in the inability to give love and receive love.

A lifestyle based on the fear of rejection is begins with thinking or feeling rejected and unloved. Then choosing to be determined to please significant others to gain their approval. When the rejection eventually happens again it results in the rejected person choosing one of the three defense postures:

Normally, men and women who live with the fear of rejection do not respect themselves or others. This is evident in their every day choices. These disrespectful choices end up destroying themselves and their relationships with those around them.

As Christians, we can rest in the security and knowledge that we are chosen and loved by the Creator God of the universe. We do not have to live lives based on the fear of rejection.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

~ Romans 8: 38-39
